Malalcahuello National Reserve

Park Information

The Malalcahuello unit is located in the Araucanía Region, in the Curacautín commune, Malleco province. It was created on March 31, 1931, by Supreme Decree No. 1670 of the Ministry of Austral Property. It has undergone subsequent modifications, due to different decrees.

The unit stands out for the protection of native species of both flora such as araucaria, coigüe and oak, and fauna, such as pumas, foxes and woodpeckers.

Its main activities are:
• Excursions and walks
• Ascents to the volcano
• Winter sports (skiing, snowshoeing, mountain excursions, snowboarding, etc.)
• Bird watching
• Photography

 

NOTICE: Malalcahuello National Reserve open -with capacity restrictions- from Tuesday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Trails available:
• Laguna Pehuenco (capacity 30 people, from October 21, 2020)
• Coloradito: 10.4 km (capacity 30 people only with guide, as of October 21, 2020)
• Sierra del Colorado: 2.8 km (capacity 20 people, as of October 21, 2020)
• Crater Navidad: 1.8 km (capacity 20 people, as of October 21, 2020)

• Piedra Santa: 7.5 km (capacity 30 people, as of December 1, 2020)
